US Open Cup Round Two Recap for USASA Teams

 

There were 3 USASA-affiliated teams that advanced to the second round of the US Open Cup. Here’s how it went:

 

El Farolito (NPSL) vs. Monterey Bay FC (4/1)

Early in the match, Monterey Bay FC came out strong with offensive attempts and defensive denials. They even took a first-half 1-0 lead, but that wasn’t enough to stop El Farolito from following up with two second half goals to win the match 1-0.

Virginia Dream FC (VSSL) vs. Loudoun United (4/2)

Both teams approached the match knowing the competition was going to be tough. Loudoun held only a 1-0 lead at half, which quickly turned into 2-1. Unfortunately for Dream, Loudoun had a few more in their arsenal and delivered Dream a 4-2 loss.

NY Pancyprian Freedoms (APSL) vs. Westchester SC (4/2)

Westchester came out the gate with an early goal against the National Amateur Cup champions. They built their league up to 3-0 at half, but the Pancyprians were far from done putting up a fight. They came back with two goals to tighten the deficit in the second half, but it unfortunately wasn’t enough and they ended with a 3-2 loss to Westchester.
